Carbon & Low Alloy Steel Forgings

Steel is the world's most important engineering and construction material. It can be recycled over and over again without loss of property. Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon containing less than 2% carbon and 1% manganese and small amounts of silicon, phosphorus, sulphur and oxygen. Alloying elements such as, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, among others, are also intentionally added to Carbon and Low Alloy Steels forgings in order to produce specific properties such as, high strength, fracture toughness, fatigue and corrosion resistance. The mechanical properties of most Carbon and Low Alloy Steels are developed by phase transformation during heat treatment, although the forging process is also a fundamental operation which complement the full development of properties on Carbon and Low Alloy Steel forging in particular to produce components free of internal defects.
